• Caused by pneumococcal bacteria.
    • May attack diff. parts of the body
      • E.g. may cause middle ear infection, lung infection (pneumonia), inflammation of membranes of brain and spinal cord, infection of the blood.

How is it Transmitted:

  • Mainly transmitted through respiratory droplets

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Fever, headache, vomiting, cough, chest pain, rapid breathing

Methods to Reduce Transmission of Pneumococcus Bacteria

  1. Get Pneumococcal vaccination
  2. Take daily preventive actions (points 2-5 in Influenza)
  3. Take antibiotics prescribed by doctor to treat disease
