  • surrounded by cell membrane which in turn surrounded by outer membrane (or jelly coat)
  • outer membrane changes during fertilisation to prevent other sperm from entering the egg

  • large nucleus containing haploid number of chromosomes.
  • presence of plasma membrane surrounded by outer membrane
