Male part of flower Consists of anther and a filament

  1. Filament
  • stalk that holds the anther in suitable position to disperse the pollen
  1. Anther
  • consists of 2 lobes each containing 2 pollen secs
  • pollen gains are found in these sacs
  • produces pollen grains.
  • when anther matures it splits open to release pollen grains
  • anther contains vascular bundle: Phloem translocate sucrose and amino acids to developing anther. Xylem transport water and mineral salts.
  1. Pollen grains
  • CONTAIN male gamete.
  • male games produced by meiosis are haploid
  • have 1/2 number of chromosomes as a normal cell
  • if normal cell of plant has 20 chromosomes, then gamete will have 10 chromosomes

Pollen = plant sperm

  • thus hay fever is an STD
