Definition
basicity is the number of hydrogen ions produced when 1 molecule of acid ionized in aqueous solution. #ChemistryDefinitions
3 groups of acids based on their basicity:
- Monobasic (1 molecule of monobasic acid will ionize in aqueous solution to produce 1 hydrogen ion)
- dibasic(1 molecule of dibasic acid will ionize in aqueous solution to produce 2 hydrogen ions)
- tribasic(1 molecule of tribasic acid will ionize in aqueous solution to produce 3 hydrogen ions)
Monobasic acids: hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, ethanoic acid
Dibasic acids: sulfuric acid, carbonic acid
Tribasic acid: phosphoric acid
