back in japan → network of ultranationalist and anti democratic activists → began to form and grow. This network of ultranationalist groups → included junior military officers who likely had the secret backing of senior military commanders. They were against the civilian political leaders and the zaibatsu → whom they regarded as self serving.
One group was the Showa Restoration Faction. → it wanted to remove all aspects of democratic government and restore direct rule to the emperor. there were other extremist groups as well → such as the sakurakai, kudoha, and ketsumeidan these groups all shared opposition to democracy.
