Hitler had seen how the civil service, the judiciary, army and other important groups had undermined the WR. was not going to let that happen to him. he continued to strengthen his power through a process called Gleicshaltung, coordiation (means bringing everything together) involved bringing all aspects of the state under Nazi Control

April 1933 Hitler passed a law Banning Jews from civil service. from that point on it became almost impossible to be promoted in the civil service unless one belonged in Nazi party

In May all trade unions were banned. All local councils and state assemblies had to have a Nazi Majority over 400 locally elected council members and 70 locally elected mayors were forced out of their positions.

July Hitler passed a law banning all other political parties. Germany became a one party state.
