Key points:

  • refer back to the issue question as much as you can when stating your message

Structure Verb: What is the source trying to do?

  • persuade, convince, criticize(critical), praise, condemn, compliment, influence, warn, make appeal, gain sympathy

Audience(must be specific based on context): Who is the target audience

Message: Main message/inference from source

Evidence + Explanation: evidence + explanation

Context(Usually given in background or provenance): Need to understand context

  • when is the source published/printed
  • what was happening at the time when the source was published
  • What is the issue of the source

Note

message must have a stronger stand than other inferences! state whether its positive or negative at all times


Inference (Purpose)

V - verb A - Audience M - Message C - Context F - Feelings O - Outcome (Must be specific)

In other words, Inference Purpose = Inference Message + Feelings + Outcome
