- made from a dicarboxylic acid and a diol (molecule with 2 groups)
represent 2 monomers as shown:
____
Balanced Chemical Equation for condensation polymerisation reaction to form terylene using structured formula

n moles of dicarboxylic acid react with n moles of diol to form 1 mole of terylene and 2n moles of water.
Repeat unit of Terylene is:

Terylene is a polyester as it contains many ester linkages
Functional group of terylene, a polyester, is the ester linkage → is usually written as:

Chemical Formula of Terylene:

Part of Structure of Nylon Showing 3 repeat units:

uses of terylene:
- strong, does not crumple easily, does not shrink→ hence used to make fabrics for manufacturing clothing
- combined with cotton to produce polyester cotton fabrics. this is because polyester by itself is not absorbent and hence is less comfortable to wear.
