Gas	Odor and Color	Test	Observation
Hydrogen, $H_2$	Odorless and colorless		Burning Splint is extinguished with a pop sound
Oxygen, $O_2$	Odorless and colorless		Glowing splint is rekindled (catches fire again)
Carbon dioxide, $C{O}_2$	Odorless and colorless		White precipitate is formed. precipitate dissolves upon further bubbling

Test for Pungent Gasses

Chlorine $C{l}_2$	Yellow-green gas with a pungent smell		Damp blue litmus paper turns red and is then bleached
Sulfur Dioxide, $S{O}_4$	Colorless gas with a pungent smell		Purple acidified potassium manganate(VII) turns colorless
Ammonia, $N{H}_3$	Colorless gas with pungent smell		Damp red litmus paper turns blue
