When chemical reaction takes place reactants converted to products.

Can measure rate of reaction in a given amt of time by observing:

  • how much product appears
  • how much reactant disappears

Can physically measure appearance / disappearance of substances by measuring:

  • Volume of gas produced in reaction
  • Change in mass of reactant / product

R.S between reactants and products with time.

  • mass of products is measured, gradient of graph is positive.

  • mass of products increases with time

  • mass of reactants is measured, gradient of graph is negative

  • mass of reactants decreases with time.

amt of products increases as amt of reactant decreases, in any reaction. (if possible, do not state amount and state the unit of measurement etc.)

Catalysts and their Affect on ROR

Catalysts and their Affect on ROR

Note: the volume of products formed is only different if:

  • acid is the limiting reactant, and the other reactant is in excess.

Note

as long as the concentration is more, regardless of the mol, the ROR is greater.

Note: ROR usually always decreases with time, unless it is a catalysed reaction, or reaction with changing conditions.
